In the Usability Lab of the ZHAW's School of Applied Linguistics, various hardware types and software solutions are available. These are digital and AI-based tools that are designed, in particular, for machine translation and interpretation as well as for automatic transcription. Among other tools, VR and AR glasses and various applications for smartphones are available for the practical partners to try out. During the course of the project, the latest tools will be continuously purchased and tested.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The digilinguo test track gives you the opportunity to try out the latest translation apps and a range of tools, including smart glasses and VR glasses, and gain your own insight into their potential. The digilinguo test track comprises a variety of digital and AI-based tools that are designed to support multilingual communication and interpreter training. A summary of a selection of these tools can be found below:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Galaxy Fold<\/strong> facilitates bilingual conversations by displaying translations on multiple screens, allowing both participants to follow the conversation in their own language. Its foldable multi-screen design enables translated content to be viewed by participants simultaneously.<\/p>

Care to Translate<\/strong> is a healthcare communication app offering translation in 134 different languages, including a large database of professionally verified medical phrases. In addition to AI-based translation, the app includes a collection of more than 3,500 phrases that have been reviewed by specialists and translated into 52 languages. Users can create personalised lists of terms and use either keyboard or voice input.<\/p>

Mabel AI<\/strong> supports multilingual conversations, particularly in healthcare and public-sector contexts. Key features include voice and text translation, conversation storage and back-translation. Conversations can be conducted in both written and spoken form, stored and downloaded. The platform can be deployed on-device, on-premise or as a SaaS solution.<\/p>

Hearview<\/strong> combines smart glasses with live captioning and real-time translation, primarily for deaf and hard-of-hearing users. The tool offers accurate speech recognition, multilingual support and clear speaker segmentation on the connected device. Translations are displayed both in the glasses and on the connected device running the application.<\/p>

Interpreters\u2019 Help<\/strong> is a terminology management platform for interpreting professionals. It allows users to create multilingual glossaries containing terms, translations, definitions and images, and includes terminology extraction and flashcard functions. The web-based platform can be accessed from different devices and glossaries can be shared with other users.<\/p>

TerpTrainer<\/strong> is a training tool for interpreters available as both a virtual reality and web-based application. Users select languages and scenarios, after which AI generates dialogues that adapt to the interpreting process. Scenarios include settings such as medical consultations and court proceedings.<\/p>

Tablet-Google-Hack<\/strong> is a workflow that combines a note-taking app with Google Translate\u2019s handwriting-recognition feature on a split-screen tablet. It allows interpreters to look up individual terms without leaving their notes, helping to maintain the flow of the conversation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
